What FXRP is, and why it matters for XRP holders

XRP is one of the most widely held digital assets in the world — but the XRP Ledger doesn’t support smart contracts, which has historically kept XRP out of DeFi. FAssets changes that, and it’s the foundation Shield Finance is built on.

The bridge, in one paragraph

FAssets is Flare Network’s trustless, over-collateralized bridge connecting non-smart-contract chains — XRP, BTC, DOGE — to Flare’s DeFi ecosystem. FXRP, wrapped XRP, was the first FAsset to launch on Flare mainnet (v1.2 went live in September 2025). Deposit XRP on the XRP Ledger; receive FXRP, a standard ERC-20 token on Flare, backed 1:1 and redeemable at any time.

What makes it trustless

  • 1:1 backing with overcollateralization — every FXRP is backed by real XRP, plus additional collateral posted by agents
  • Flare Data Connector (FDC) — bridging is verified by Flare’s native data proofs, not by a custodian’s promise
  • Full redemption, any time — FXRP can always be redeemed back to native XRP
  • Audited — the FAssets system has been audited by Zellic, Coinspect, and Code4rena

There’s no centralized issuer to trust and no multisig holding your keys.

Why this matters for Shield

Shield Finance’s vaults accept FXRP deposits and put them to work in yield strategies — which means XRP holders can finally earn real, on-chain yield without handing their assets to a centralized platform. The shXRP vault is the entry point; the $SHIELD flywheel routes the resulting fees back to token holders.

Developer integrating FAssets? The docs include contract addresses for Flare mainnet and Coston2 testnet, plus the registry pattern for resolving the AssetManager dynamically.
